ZACK BOUGHTON - Bozeman, MT - @zackboughton
I started my photography journey as a skier back in high school. Inspired by ski film and photography, I thought that documenting my own experiences would be a rad pursuit. Little did I know the path it would lead me down and the experiences and people it would allow me to enrich my life with over the last decade. I was in college getting a Business Degree when I picked up hunting and fishing and the camera came along. The last two years of college were spent cramming in school, working part time at the local brewery and starting what would become Montana Wild. Over the course of running that business with my brother I was fortunate to work closely with the top brands in the industry. There wasn’t any accessible info on how to go about doing just that so we learned the hard way as we went. Over time we learned a LOT about business, content creation, and the hunting industry. One of the best parts of this was time spent mentoring and guiding interns and employees and seeing them go on to absolutely crush in the work they pursued after. If you’re not familiar with these guys give them a follow on Instagram: Sam Averett, Keith Ailes, Jay Siske, Calvin Connor, Bryant Patterson, and Matt Miller!

STEVEN DRAKE - Bozeman, MT - @stevendrakephoto - annulicollective.com
Steven Drake’s life is rooted in the mountains. He grew up skiing and raced competitively for 13 years in Montana. The mountains inspired him and when he first started hunting at age 12, he was hooked on the wild places and situations that hunting yielded. He first started documenting his own hunts in 2009 when he went off to college as a way to share and remember his experiences. The hunt was and has always been more than just the kill. Steven’s focus on documenting the experience in it’s entirety led him down this career path. He graduated from MSU-Bozeman with a degree in Business Marketing. During his time there he interned with a digital marketing and photography agency that specialized in the hunting and outdoor industry. After graduation he worked there for 2 years then went out on his own as a free-lance photographer, videographer and content creator. He’s been a freelancer for 4 years now, traveling the world while documenting hunting pursuits for high end hunting brands and individuals.

MODULE 1 - THE FOUNDATION
The first section of the course is going to set the tone for the rest of your work and learning as you move through our program and eventually set out on your own. Here we talk about creating your “WHY”, the driving force behind why you want to pursue photography and what will be the fire that pushes you forward. We talk more in depth about our background, starting out in the field and how to land an internship or mentorship that will kick start your career, and then talk more about the industry and the lifestyle of a Hunting Photographer.
MODULE 2 - SHOOTING & EDITING
This section jumps headfirst into shooting and editing photos. We tackle topics such as Keys To Hunting Photography, Camera Settings, How to Start Getting Experience, Capturing The Hunt, and we wrap things up with an in depth look at how we use Adobe Lightroom. Our Lightroom Module starts with file management, importing procedure, selecting and organizing images, editing, and final output.
MODULE 3 - GEAR
Gear, a topic many of our questions are about. At the end of the day gear is simply a tool and doesn’t dictate your overall success or failure as a photographer. That said it ‘s an important piece of our work and knowing what gear works best in certain situations and seeing what some of your options are will help you immensely in beginning to assemble your own personal gear kit. Basic & Advanced photography gear is covered as well as how to travel with your photography equipment.
MODULE 4 - THE BUSINESS
This is the where we believe the real value of this course lives. As a freelance photographer you are a business owner. Running a business is and can be scary but it doesn’t have to be. We break down all the main elements you need to understand to successfully start and run a photography business. We cover the following topics: Starting a Business, Basic Business Skills, Your Brand, Porfolios & Websites, Growing Your Brand, Networking, Pricing Images and Day Rates, Finding Brands, Proposals, Contracts, Attorneys, Invoicing Clients, Drone Certification, Image Releases, Permits, and Goals & Future Planning. When we started our businesses this was always the biggest hurdle. There was no info available and understanding how to piece it all together was a constant battle and learning process. We want to help you understand how to professionally run your business from Day 1 so you can focus on your work and growing your business.
MODULE 5 - SOCIAL MEDIA (INSTAGRAM)
Right now Instagram is in our opinion the #1 platform for photographers. We believe understanding and correctly utilizing this platform will be a huge asset to your business as a hunting photographer. We go through correctly setting up and using your profile, posting strategies, how to successfully use stories, time management practices, tips and tricks we’ve learned over the years, workflow for managing your images and optimizing your posts for Instagram, and finally we wrap it up with workflow and best practices for posting and leveraging video.
